Saturday Workshops at The Court
In 2010 The Court Theatre is proud to announce a programme of Saturday workshops to be held once-monthly between March and October. Taught by The Court’s top professional actors and tutors, these will cover a wide range of theatre skills.
All workshops will be held on a Saturday between 9 and 3pm at The Court. Prices are $150 inc. GST per workshop ($180 inc. GST for Master Classes.)
March 13th: Lighting a Performance
Tutor: The Court technical staff
An introduction to lighting in the theatre. Will include practical experience with equipment in Court One.
April 24th: Voice
Tutor: Elizabeth O’Connor, Literary Manager at The Court
A practical workshop, in which participants will be coached in ways to improve their vocal technique and quality.
May 22nd: Acting Skills
Tutor: Stephanie McKellar-Smith, Co-ordinator of Acting at The National Academy of Singing and the Dramatic Arts
A comprehensive look at the most important skills of acting.
June 19th: Master Class*: Acting Comedy
Tutor: Ross Gumbley, Artistic Director of The Court
Through the direction of a variety of classic comedic scenes, Ross Gumbley will teach participants the skills to succeed in this often difficult genre.
July 24th: Script Analysis
Tutor: Lara Macgregor, Associate Artistic Director of The Court
An exploration of ways an actor or director can find depth of character and meaning in a script.
August 28th: Staging Musical Theatre
Tutor: Sandra Rasmussen, Director and Choreographer at The Court
A fun, practical workshop which will communicate the universal skills required when putting together a musical performance.
September 18th : Master Class*:Classical Acting
Tutor: Elric Hooper, former Artistic Director of The Court
In this Master Class taught by esteemed actor and director Elric Hooper, participants will observe and be directed in a selection of scenes from classical theatre.
October 30th: Auditioning for Stage and Screen
Tutor: Lara Macgregor, Associate Artistic Director of The Court
Participants will be given practical experience and learn the skills for successful auditioning.
* Master Classes will be open to participants actively performing, teaching or studying
theatre, or those who hold a qualification or experience equivalent to the following
approximate levels: Trinity College Grade 8; NCEA Level 3; NZSB Grade 8.
